Amy comes home

Thanks again to he who controls the weather, Amy's train was only 20 minutes late, and it didn't snow on the way home, although it was -9, brrrrrrr.
Just to make Amy feel at home it had snowed by Sunday morning and the snow shovel was in gainful employment once again. Amy got stuck in to some baking and made Butterfly buns and cookies, so we won't go hungry, and on Tuesday we took her for her first trip into Kelso since she was 5 months old.
Not many sleeps now until the man in the red suit arrives. Merry Christmas to one and all.

Mum and Dad

Well, the weather held off enough for my Mum and Dad to get here, first class on the train of course, lol. It was cold all week, but on the Monday we braved the weather and went to Edinburgh. Jolly nice day, with a Christmas continental market thrown in. The weather was a bit restricting for the rest of the week, but we did get into Kelso and squeezed in two visits to the Hoot 'n Cat for lunch :)
The Saturday trip back to Berwick was very cold for their train home, then we had the minimum 4 hour wait for Amy's train to arrive.

Christmas is coming

Well, the thaw started yesterday and the snow is going fast. The only trouble is that the larger piles hang around longer and make the place look untidy, lol. Today we went to Galashiels and bought a new Christmas tree, which is now resident in the corner of the room. The cards have started to arrive and the first box of chocs' has been opened. Man in red suit on his way. :)

Cold!

No snow overnight and a bright sunny morning for a change, which gave us the chance to dig our car out, though it was very cold, -11 when we started, brrrrrrrr...
The snow was heavy and compacted so it took some shifting in places. So much had built up on top of the walls that when one part fell it took a coping stone with it. That will give us something to do in the summer, lol. Jim and I had it cleared in about an hour, and the car started first time. So Gill and I took the opportunity to go to Kelso and get supplies before the next lot of forecast snow arrives later today. The icicles were long and removed before they could get any longer. Even though I had clear the paths, Jerry still thinks it is more fun to find the deepest part of the snow and plough his way through it.
Clouded over again now and they look heavy....snow shovel at the ready :)

Winter wonderland

Well, after my last post, it hasn't stopped snowing. To all my Canadian cousins, I know we don't know what snow is. Compared to what Saskatchewan gets every year, this is nothing, but the thing is we don't usually get it this bad for a prolonged period and as a country we never seem to be prepared for it. Anyway, after the fourth day of digging out I now have muscles like Popeye. This morning I heard the first crack of a branch on the large pine tree at the front. This was high up where I couldn't reach. I had relieved some of the pressure on the lower branches, but this one was too high and the weight of snow became too much for it. It is even beginning to confuse Jerry. He ran onto the lawn this morning and disappeared. Only his head was above the snow, lol.
So, now back inside for a break whilst it covers over what we cleared this morning, and no doubt the snow shovel will see more action again soon.

First Snow

Late Wednesday evening saw the first snow of the winter here. Just a light dusting about 10pm when I was out with Jerry.
By Thursday morning the light dusting had turned into a couple of inches. I cleared the paths around the bungalow, and by the time I had finished it was snowing again. I can see this is going to be like painting the Forth Bridge :).
So an hour later it had stopped so I cleared them again. See how long that lasts, lol.
